Innovation is a word thrown about so frequently the meaning has muddied like a glass of water set out on your patio overnight. Twitter is chock full of tweets using #Innovate (we use it) and links to countless blogs claiming to offer insight into innovation.  The always-present list article (which we all know I love) seems to be a favorite format of writers wanting to drone on about the how’s and why’s of innovation. My question is where does true innovation live?

Historically we...

Working remotely can be incredibly rewarding but it is not without its’ challenges. Distractions if you let them, can keep you from reaching your maximum potential. When I began working from home, I felt like a kid let loose for summer break but quickly realized I needed to learn some new habits if success was in the cards. Read below to discover 5 ways I’ve kept afloat while working from home.

1)   Adopt a schedule and stick to it-

Many falter due to a lack of discipline in...

Does the word connected inspire you to think about relationships and teamwork or does it conjure images of an uncertain technological future and give rise to fear? Perhaps the word provokes nostalgia for a time before social media, email and apps and a longing for simplicity. It’s easy to become jaded and to ignore the potential of technology, even avoiding participation. If you’ve been resistant to embrace technology or know those who have, you may want to think again and encourage...

We’ve spent a fair amount of time speaking to the benefits of Cloud and Cisco’s exciting Spark Solution. For those of you who prefer on-premise or hybrid platforms Cisco’s BE6000 (Business Edition) is best in class. Other IP phone solutions exist in the marketplace but Cisco’s comprehensive offering holds many advantages that firmly place them ahead of competitors. Do you find yourself feeling that nearly all-online content is geared only toward generating sales and provides very little substance? The value of content appearing on pages across the web is suffering at the hands of digital marketers. We've been discussing strategic opportunity quite a bit around KBZ/ScanSource of late. The idea is always top of mind but since Cisco's Partner Summit in San Diego the word has taken on new meaning. For me, of all the keynote speakers brought in during the summit, Jeremy Gutsche CEO of TrendHunter and author of Better and Faster, hit the mark when he brought up the often overlooked need to seek out or hunt for opportunity, avoiding, as he calls it, the "3 traps of a farmer": complacency,...

How often do you find yourself at a party, making your best attempt at explaining in the simplest terms, to a complete stranger, how truly exciting your work is? Do you, like me, leave the conversation feeling like a total nerd, having just spent the better part of an hour bantering on about the revolution in technology on its’ way? That’s the experience most of us have when someone asks the dreaded question, what do you do? Soon enough, we will reach the tipping point, like the moment in...

Last week, while working on a few projects from the road, I was reminded of the challenges we can face when collaborating in virtual teams. Studies have shown time and time again that virtual collaboration creates happier, more productive employees while also saving money and greatly helping the environment. That being said, nothing is without its share of challenges and virtual collaboration can present a number of roadblocks to circumvent.  In the interest of keeping your team connected...

Not long ago, I was inspired to dust off a handful of notebooks filled with scribbling’s from my earliest years working in this industry (I’ve got a mountain of weathered composition books containing notes, most of which even I can’t decipher). Turning page after nearly illegible page, I stumbled upon an underlined entry, highlighted in bold yellow ink, and easily readable from a foot’s distance. It read simply, “TELEPRESENCE AND THE ENVIRONMENT”. Thinking back to the conversation that...
